The summer reading program at the Jefferson public library ended Monday with a party at Russell Park.
Prizes were awarded after the children enjoyed a variety of outdoor games, including a human ring toss game, hula hoops, water races and pancake flipping. A game that required children to pour water from a cup on their head to another cup held on the stomach of friend laying on the grass drew many, many giggles.
Children’s librarian Terry Clark reported the children read a total of 44,125 minutes in June and July.
All children earned prizes throughout the program for minutes read and received a Dairy Queen gift card, a Blank Park Zoo pass, a Breadeaux Pizza certificate, a T-shirt and a paperback book. With the help of sponsors, the summer reading program is free for all children.
Luke Robbins was winner of the grand prize, a new bicycle. Brice Ball read the most minutes with 2,500 minutes logged. Winners in the “minutes drawing” were Collin Russell, Andi Sanders, Kendall Montgomery and Aiden Kenoyer.
Sponsors of the summer reading program were Breadeaux Pizza, Dairy Queen, Fareway, Greene County board of supervisors, Home State Bank, Peoples Trust & Savings Bank, Wells Fargo Bank, and the Friends of the Jefferson Public Library.
